How to get a place in the 2019 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon
Entries into the 2019 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon will be available from Wednesday 5th September at 10am. An initial 5,000 places went on sale straight after the previous event, and were quickly snapped up. The remainder are available on a first come, first served, basis through the official website ManchesterMarathon.co.uk.
The annual event returns on Sunday 7th April, welcoming over 15,000 runners to take on the 26.2 mile course, finishing at Lancashire Cricket Club. The highly regarded marathon is known for its flat course, which makes it less intimidating for first timers, and also faster for those looking to break a previous time.
Earlier this year the event hit the headlines when Claire Lomas completed the course over 8 days, despite being paralysed from the waist down, thanks to her bionic suit (https://youtu.be/MxpvHLMW91Q).
Those who don’t fancy tackling the full distance can enter a relay team of two or four people, who split the distance between each runner. The event is organised by the same team as the Manchester Half, which is taking place on Sunday 14th October this year.
Competition for places has increased in recent years, with a record number of people registering their interest in advance to take part. Everybody who completes the challenge and crosses the finish line will receive a medal and high quality ASICS technical top.
Nick Rusling, CEO of the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, said “I’ve been to hundreds of sporting events, and I can’t think of many that rival the incredible atmosphere on marathon day in Manchester. There’s something quite magical about it, as tens of thousands of people come out to support the 15,000 people taking on this most heroic of human challenges. There’s respect and passion I’ve not seen elsewhere in quite the same way.”
