“YOUR MIND IS YOUR STRONGEST TOOL – SO BRING ON THE CHALLENGE!” – MANJOTH’S STORY

28-year-old Manjoth Sanghera is putting “mind over matter” next year by taking on the adidas Manchester Marathon in memory of her inspiring grandad.

Manjoth will take on the challenge in April for the British Heart Foundation.

Alongside raising vital funds for the British Heart Foundation, Manjoth will honour the man who shaped her life and use her own health to make a difference for others facing heart conditions.

Below, Manjoth shares her story in her own words.

“My grandad was a constant source of support, love and advice in my life. He drove me to and from school every day for 17 years, and in those moments, I learnt many life lessons through his calm and grounded outlook.

Manjoth’s grandfather told her “Your mind is your strongest tool”.

He lived with heart failure for my whole life, but COVID caused his health to deteriorate further. With a heart functioning at around 15 percent compared to the average, he sadly passed away aged 78.

The strength my grandad showed throughout his life was unbelievable. He showed up every day and enjoyed gardening, doing the school runs, and simply sitting and talking to his family.

His mantra was always “Your mind is your strongest tool”. If it was up to his mind alone, I have no doubt he would still be here today.

I once read a quote: “There is somebody lying in a hospital bed wishing they had your health and your ability to go out and do the damn thing”. It reminded me when my sister was crying in the hospital. She said “He is never going to go outside again. He is never going to be able to walk again. He is never going to go into his garden, cut his grass or get fresh air.”

As long as I have my health and the ability to exercise, I want to use that to do something meaningful for those who can’t. After starting running last year, I will take on the adidas Manchester Marathon for my grandad, in honour of everything he taught me about resilience.

Manjoth has already raised £1000 for the British Heart Foundation.

I will also raise money and awareness for the British Heart Foundation. Every penny donated will support research that provides essential treatments and care for those impacted by cardiovascular disease.

As my grandad said: “Mind over matter”. I know running a marathon will be tough, but I can already hear him saying “It’s all in the mind; you can do it.” So, with that, bring on the challenge!”

Thank you Manjoth for sharing your story.
