OLIVIA TSIM’S POST-PARTUM PODIUM FINISH AND THE OTHER MUMS WHO CRUSHED IT

This year, 36% of registered participants were women at the adidas Manchester Marathon: a statistic which places the event firmly on par with other major marathons across the world.

Among those 36% were many young mothers, who balanced parenthood with training to conquer 26.2 miles. While there were hundreds of new mums who took part on the day, we wanted to highlight 3 women’s impressive feats.

1. OLIVIA TSIM

Olivia Tsim sped her way to women’s 2nd place on Sunday, just 7 months after the birth of her baby boy Alexis. Not only that, Olivia was part of the 50% of participants taking on her first ever marathon! She said the following after her achievement: “I couldn’t have wished for a better experience for my first marathon. The atmosphere was electric and I loved that the course was so spectator-friendly, allowing me to see my family multiple times. Sharing the podium with my 7 month old baby boy is also a memory that will last a lifetime and I’m so grateful to everyone who made it possible.” Congratulations Olivia!

2. FLEUR EAST

Hits Radio and BBC Presenter Fleur East rallied a team of strong women to take part in the relays on Sunday, having trained with The Kurl Kitchen run club since January. Fleur ran the furthest distance she’d ever completed and said: “Hopefully this is the start of more running in the future. After having my baby, I honestly couldn’t have imagined that I would take on such a challenge a year on. It’s amazing what our bodies, and more importantly, what our minds can do!”

She also praised the “incredible atmosphere” in Manchester and said she was reunited with her one year old baby Nova in an emotional moment. Well done Fleur!

3. EMILY JEVONS

Endurance athlete Emily Jevons also said that the adidas Manchester Marathon was a crowning moment in a series of PBs this year, which prove she’s even faster than ever. “After a difficult pregnancy and birth, I wasn’t sure if I would ever be able to commit to training again. As a young mother, I also work full-time. The balance isn’t easy, but my aim is simple: to show my little girl she can achieve anything she wants if she puts her mind to it”.

Emily completed her debut marathon in an incredible 3:19.
