ABF The Soldiers’ Charity

The National Charity of the British Army

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is the national charity of the British Army, providing a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their families when they are in need.

About ABF The Soldiers’ Charity

We are proud to be the official charity partner for the Manchester Marathon 2021.

Taking part in the Manchester Marathon 2021 will help raise vital funds for soldiers, veterans and their families so they can have the opportunity to avoid hardship and enjoy independence and dignity.

The overall scale, breath and range of the charity’s support is vast. We help serving families cope with a sudden bereavement or traumatic loss; provide wide-ranging support to wounded soldiers, many of whom will need increasing financial assistance for decades to come; provide help with housing, education and training for employment for soldiers and veterans of all ages; we are there for older veterans and their widows or widowers when they find themselves lonely or isolated.

In the past year, we have helped 70,000 people in around 60 countries across the globe and funded numerous charities and organisations to support people like Rick Clement.

Sergeant Rick Clement, formerly of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, joined the Army just before his 17th birthday and served for 16 years.

In 2010, Rick was a month into his first tour of Afghanistan when he stepped on an IED. He lost his legs and much of his right arm in the blast. He praised the rescue team who took just nine minutes to reach him in a helicopter from Camp Bastion.

Rick then went on to undertake gym work and physiotherapy; he is now able to drive and gets around on a mountain trike wheelchair. ABF The Soldiers’ Charity assisted with a grant towards a specialist wheelchair and funding for a corner bath.  Rick is now 100% independent and lives with his dog, Max, in an adapted home close to family and friends.
