Research happening right now in Manchester
We’re studying the underlying biology of melanoma to develop new treatments

Professor Richard Marais is director of our Manchester Institute. He’s also a world-leading expert in melanoma research. His research has made huge strides in our understanding of the disease.
His group is finding out how melanoma develops and progresses. They’re also seeking to understand why treatment sometimes stops working.
They will use this information find better ways to prevent and treat melanoma to save more lives.

The Manchester Campaign

Cancer Research UK will launch the ‘Re-Write Cancer’ campaign – a £20m joint fundraising appeal from Cancer Research UK, The Christie Charitable Fund and The University of Manchester. The campaign aims to help meet the cost of a new £150m cancer research facility. The new building will bring together the largest concentration of scientists, doctors and nurses in Europe to collaborate and accelerate progress for cancer patients.
